Diagnostic and imaging tools
We use cancer screening tools and diagnostic tests that incorporate the latest in medical technology, including:
- Endobronchial ultrasound and super-dimension bronchoscopy — This technique uses ultrasound along with advanced bronchoscopy imaging to reach deep into the lungs and get a biopsy.
- Wireless needle localization — Doctors place a small non-radioactive marker into a breast lump. They will then find the marker later during the primary surgery using a magnetic probe. Using a wireless technique means the patient doesn't have to undergo this procedure on the day of surgery.
- Blue light cystoscopy — In this diagnostic procedure, doctors insert an agent into the patient's bladder, which is absorbed by any cancerous tissue. It causes tumors to show up as fluorescent under blue light, making them much easier to see and remove during surgery.
Nurse navigators
Our cancer program also features a nurse navigator to help patients throughout the process and facilitate care for the oncologists. The nurse navigator provides support, guidance, education and help to patients and their loved ones.
