Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center has taken cancer care and oncology to a new level with our adult inpatient cancer center, featuring the latest treatment, resources and amenities for patients fighting the disease.

  • Sunrise is accredited by the Commission on Cancer, a program of the American College of Surgeons, for its commitment to delivering high-quality patient-centered care.
  • Our breast center is accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers and is a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence from the American College of Radiology.
  • Our inpatient cancer program features a dedicated sleep area for a family member in every patient room.

Our cancer program

Sunrise's oncology department brings together quality technology and staff to provide a higher level of cancer treatment to patients. The cancer program includes treatment for:

  • Breast cancer

  • Genitourinary cancer (prostate and bladder)

Diagnostic and imaging tools

We use cancer screening tools and diagnostic tests that incorporate the latest in medical technology, including:

  • Endobronchial ultrasound and super-dimension bronchoscopy — This technique uses ultrasound along with advanced bronchoscopy imaging to reach deep into the lungs and get a biopsy.
  • Wireless needle localization — Doctors place a small non-radioactive marker into a breast lump. They will then find the marker later during the primary surgery using a magnetic probe. Using a wireless technique means the patient doesn't have to undergo this procedure on the day of surgery.
  • Blue light cystoscopy — In this diagnostic procedure, doctors insert an agent into the patient's bladder, which is absorbed by any cancerous tissue. It causes tumors to show up as fluorescent under blue light, making them much easier to see and remove during surgery.

Nurse navigators

Our cancer program also features a nurse navigator to help patients throughout the process and facilitate care for the oncologists. The nurse navigator provides support, guidance, education and help to patients and their loved ones.
