Stroke
Cerebrovascular accidents (strokes) are serious and can be life-threatening. When you're having a stroke, every second counts.
Sunrise has received the American Heart Association's Target Stroke Honor Roll Elite award, which means most of our patients receive lifesaving clot-busting medication to treat an acute stroke within 60 minutes. We also perform several surgical procedures to clear any clots and make sure blood flows freely to the brain and prevents any further damage.
Epilepsy
Accredited by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers, the Epilepsy Center at Sunrise Hospital offers patients access to the highest level of medical evaluation and treatment for complex epilepsy. As a Level 3 Center for adults, we are the only facility in Southern Nevada providing professional expertise through a dedicated chief epileptologist.
Additionally, the center is a state-of-the-art monitoring facility with four hospital rooms equipped with devices for long-term brain monitoring using audio and video and advanced brain mapping of seizures and brain function.

Chiari malformation
Chiari malformation is a disorder that can cause multiple problems and result in a debilitating condition for many people. The main symptom tends to be severe headaches, typically in the back of the head, often with a pressure-type feeling. This is caused by pressure on the end of the brainstem.
Other common symptoms associated with the disorder include neck pain, shoulder region pain, arm pain or numbness, coldness in the hands and feet, swallowing problems, ringing in the ears, clumsiness, bladder control issues, chronic fatigue and even difficulty thinking clearly.
Surgery is available to relieve this pressure, and the results are often dramatic.
Neurosurgery
The neurosurgeons at Sunrise Hospital perform advanced neurological surgery, working with experts to ensure the best results possible. They specialize in:
- Cerebrovascular neurosurgery — Treats disorders of the blood vessels in the head and neck, including aneurysms, vascular tumors, malformations, occlusions and ischemia.
- Spinal disorders — Provides treatments for spinal disorders, degenerative diseases, tumors and infections.
- Interventional neuroradiology — Microsurgery inside blood vessels and spinal vertebrae for stroke, aneurysms, tumors and other malformations that regular surgery can't treat.
- Brain tumors — A mass of abnormal cells in the brain. Treatment includes other lesions in the skull base that used to be inoperable.
- Craniofacial surgery — Used to treat birth abnormalities, trauma and tumors that cause distortion of the face and head.

Support groups for neurological conditions
Experiencing or being diagnosed with a neurological condition can be difficult, especially if you don't have the proper information or support. At Sunrise, we offer support groups for patients who have experienced a stroke or have epilepsy.

Stroke support group
The Stroke Support Group is held on the third Wednesday of each month at 6pm in the Desert Sand Room, located on the first floor of Sunrise Hospital. Patients can meet other people who have suffered a stroke and talk with their caregivers. Snacks and refreshments are served.
Epilepsy support group
The Epilepsy Support Group is held on the second Wednesday of every month at 5:30pm on the first floor of Sunrise Hospital in the auditorium. You can meet other people with seizures in a fun and relaxed environment while learning valuable information. Whether you are diagnosed with epilepsy or are a friend, family member or caregiver, all are welcome to attend.
All the epilepsy support groups are free and open to the public. No registration is required.
