Las Vegas, NV–Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center today expanded its existing Patient Tower 4 with two new floors to serve Nevada and beyond. The fourth and fifth floors, including the addition of 72 new patient beds and supporting technology, increases the hospital’s total bed count from 762 to 834. The 72 additional beds include expansion of existing units Medical Cardiac Unit (MCU), Neuro Surgical Intensive Care Unit (NSICU), Adult Oncology Services (AOS), and Trauma Surgical Intensive Care Unit (TSICU). The announcement was made today by Todd P. Sklamberg, Chief Executive Officer for Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center and Sunrise Children’s Hospital.

“Today’s opening of the fourth and fifth floors of Patient Tower 4 affords Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center opportunity to better care for our community and decrease wait times for patients awaiting transport from ER to patient room, said Sklamberg. “The new floors offer bright, spacious patient rooms designed to help our patients and their families heal.”

Sunrise Hospital serves as Nevada’s largest acute care facility and Level II Trauma Center, which is located just minutes away from the Las Vegas Strip.

According to Sklamberg, the 55,418 square foot expansion is a build-out of Sunrise’s original, five-story tower expansion, which opened in December 2019. At that time, the expansion featured the hospital’s new and expanded trauma and Emergency Department, helipad, 36 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) rooms and a 36-bed inpatient surgical unit. The tower was built in 2019 for occupancy of floors one through three with plans for completing construction on the fourth and fifth floors, which were left as shell space until further expansion would be needed.

Sklamberg noted that Sunrise has been and continues actively recruiting and growing its nursing ranks. Sunrise Hospital is hosting a hiring fair scheduled Friday, Feb. 18 at the hospital located at 3186 S. Maryland Parkway, Las Vegas, NV. For complete hiring fair registration information, click here.

“On behalf of all of us here at Sunrise Hospital, we want to recognize and thank Layton Construction, LLC for construction of the 4th and 5th floors construction project,” added Sklamberg. “We want to thank our many Sunrise teams including Facilities, Nursing, Environmental Services, Information Technology, Transport, Biomed, and Supply Chain for making this inviting and comfortable new space available for our patients and the physicians, providers, and nurses who serve them.

The fourth and fifth floor space is occupied by:

  • Medical Cardiac Unit (MCU), the entire fourth floor with 36 beds
  • Fifth floor: Adult Oncology Services (AOS) with 16 beds and Neuro Surgical ICU (NSICU), 20 beds.

In addition, Trauma Surgical ICU (TSICU) will backfill NSICU’s second floor space expanding from 20 to 36 beds.
