Why is cardiac rehabilitation important?

Cardiac rehabilitation is a monitored and supervised exercise and education program that helps patients with heart conditions resume their normal activities. Rehab is an essential part of cardiac care because it lowers the risk of death and complications for patients who have had heart surgery or experienced a cardiovascular event.

Some of the surgeries and conditions that may benefit from cardiac rehab include:

  • Chronic stable angina
  • Congestive heart failure
  • Coronary artery bypass graft
  • Coronary revascularization (angioplasty, stent)
  • Heart attack
  • Pre- and post-heart transplant
  • Severe coronary artery disease
  • Valve surgery

We want to improve each patient's understanding of their disease, help them control symptoms by making healthy choices and return them to their highest level of activity.

About our cardiac rehabilitation program

Throughout the program, our rehab staff monitor works with you to decrease risk factors for cardiovascular disease through exercise and education while keeping your primary physician notified of your progress.

You'll begin the program with an orientation that includes a physical evaluation and a personal treatment plan. The plan helps you reach individual goals while learning essential lifestyle changes.

Your exercise program depends on your diagnosis and any special needs you may have. You'll learn how to exercise safely in a monitored setting. We base exercise goals on your personal goals for your recovery.

We provide individualized and group education throughout the program so that you can learn more about heart disease and find out ways to manage cardiovascular risk factors.

Our rehab team offers program patients a friendly and open environment that encourages and supports them in the rehabilitation process. Family members or spouses can participate in the educational sessions for free.

You should always discuss cardiac rehabilitation with your physician before starting cardiac rehab or any other exercise regimen. You'll need a physician's prescription to participate.

Medicare and most insurance companies cover Phase ll rehab, which is outpatient cardiac rehabilitation. Our staff can help you with the insurance verification process before you start.
