Unless you are staying overnight, you will remain in a recovery area until discharged by your physician. You will need to arrange for a responsible adult to accompany you who will be able to drive you home. Outpatient Surgery patients are usually discharged within a few hours of their procedure and should not drive within 24 hours after receiving sedation. Patients are often still sleepy at the time of discharge and should plan on going home and resting for the remainder of the day. This is a tremendously important instruction for your safety and the safety of others on the road.

A written copy of the discharge instructions will be given to the adult who accompanies you. These instructions should be read when you get home and are more awake.
