A new mission statement reflecting the true purpose of the Valley’s largest healthcare facility, Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, was announced today - “Together, we are a community dedicated to healing.” The new mission was announced to employees during 2017 National Hospital Week observances at the 690-bed, acute care facility. Sunrise Hospital, which shares a campus with Sunrise Children’s Hospital, is the busiest healthcare facility in Nevada, according to the Center for Health Information Analysis for Nevada.
“We touched the lives of patients in 49 of 50 states – a unique point of fact that demonstrates the phenomenal draw of Las Vegas to the rest of the nation,” said Todd P. Sklamberg, CEO of Sunrise Hospital and Sunrise Children’s Hospital. “When you consider that 167,000 patients passed through our ER doors last year, a special level of dedication is required of every Care Team member responsible for the lives of so many – this new mission statement is their expression of commitment.”
The new mission comes as the 58-year-old institution embarks on a multi-year expansion project. Plans are underway to build a five-story, 180,000 square-foot tower on campus to meet increasing demand for acute care services among patients in Nevada, Northern Arizona, Southern Utah and Eastern California. The project is slated for a 2018 start. However, this week, the facility has begun internal upgrades to several busy hospital units, including its largest nursing unit located on the 4th floor. The project has many needed efficiency and amenity upgrades to improve the patient and caregiver experience. This is a unit that cares for the broadest variety of patients and is a very high-tech, high-touch environment.
“When I see patients they usually are at their most vulnerable and I get to connect with them at a level people don’t normally see,” said Jennifer Hokanson, RN, a 4th Floor Telemetry Unit nursing professional. “Together, we are a community dedicated to healing - that is especially important to me because I’m from here and through the years, I’ve seen it change drastically. Because we’ve grown as a community, Sunrise Hospital must grow. I want the best for my family. I want the best for the people who live here,” she concluded.
