Las Vegas, NV (March 21, 2014)The Heart Center at Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center performed another first for the region today, with the implantation of Nevada’s first Medtronic Reveal LINQ Insertable Cardiac Monitor (ICM).  Dr. Arjun Gururaj, Interventional Cardiologist and Medical Director of the Electrophysiology (EP) Program at Sunrise Hospital, performed the implantation.  This device is available for both adult and pediatric patients.

“At Sunrise, our first priority is providing patients with high quality care through practices that improve outcomes and the overall patient experience,” said Todd Sklamberg, Chief Executive Officer of Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center and Sunrise Children’s Hospital.  “Sunrise has a long history of providing ‘firsts’ in cardiac care to its adult and pediatric patients.  We will continue to work with our physicians in an effort to offer the latest advancements in technology to the community.”

Smaller than a house key, the cardiac monitor is inserted in the upper chest area, and continuously records heart rhythms.  With the device, physicians can help patients find answers to unexplained heart-related problems without interrupting the patient’s lifestyle.  This device allows physicians to wirelessly monitor a patient’s heart for up to three years.

“The LINQ allows me to provide even better care to my patients,” said Dr. Gururaj.  “Patients are given a local anesthetic and the monitor is inserted just under the skin.  The small size of the device makes the scar almost unnoticeable.  My patients are able to go home right away and return to their normal daily activities.”

The Heart Center at Sunrise Hospital cares for more hearts than any other hospital in Nevada.  As Nevada’s first Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) Program and the only pediatric open heart surgery program in the state, Sunrise is leading the way in providing advanced cardiac care to Southern Nevada and the surrounding region.

Patient and physician interviews are available, upon request.
