First of its Kind Heart Procedure at Sunrise Hospital
April 24, 2012
Sunrise Hospital is proud to announce that its first Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) procedure was completed successfully yesterday. This revolutionary treatment is the first of its kind in Southern Nevada and is only offered through a Hybrid Operating Room (OR). Sunrise Hospital unveiled Southern Nevada’s first Hybrid OR earlier this year.
Until recently, the only way to get a new heart valve was to have open heart surgery. Now that has changed with the TAVR procedure allowing patients to undergo aortic valve replacement through a small incision in the skin. It is a state-of-the-art treatment for aortic valve stenosis.
The TAVR procedure may not be used on all patients, but for the appropriate patient it offers a minimally invasive treatment which allows for better outcomes and quicker patient recovery. The TAVR procedure and the Hybrid OR are just the latest examples of how Sunrise Hospital offers the leading heart program in the region.
