LAS VEGAS, NV -- Sunrise Hospital and the Nevada Neurosciences Institute (NNI) have received the 2010 American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines® Stroke Gold Plus Performance Achievement Award. The award recognizes Sunrise Hospital and the NNI’s commitment and success in consistently implementing the most up-to-date guidelines and recommendations for stroke patients. This is third consecutive year Sunrise and the NNI have been recognized at the Gold level.
To receive the award, Sunrise achieved 85 percent or higher adherence to all Get With The Guidelines- Stroke Performance Achievement indicators for two or more consecutive 12-month intervals and achieved 75 percent or higher compliance with six of 10 Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Quality Measures, which are reporting initiatives to measure quality of care. These measures include aggressive use of medications, such as tPA, antithrombotics, anticoagulation therapy, DVT prophylaxis, cholesterol reducing drugs and smoking cessation, all aimed at reducing death and disability and improving the lives of stroke patients.
According to the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, someone suffers a stroke every 40 seconds. Scientific studies reveal that the Get With The Guidelines Program works for improved patient survival.
“Meeting rigorous standards to provide timely, quality care when our patients need it most is a top priority for us. This award, in addition to being a certified Primary Stroke Center, makes Sunrise a stroke leader in our community,” said Sylvia Young, CEO of Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center.
